From 3 February 2020, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will now be sending an SMS and/or email alert to SMSF trustees when changes are made to SMSF details.
The SMS text messages will be issued to alert trustees of SMSF when any changes have been made to the fund.

These changes include;

  • financial account details
  • authorised contacts
  • members

What does the text message say?

“Hi Trustee

We have received a request asking for changes to your self-managed fund (SMSF) THE TRUSTEE FOR YOUR SUPERANNUATION FUND. Based on this, we have made changes to your SMSF account. If you know about these changes, you don’t need to do anything else. If you want more information, visit ato.gov.au/SMSFaccountmessage (https://www.ato.gov.au/SMSFaccountmessage)”

These alerts are designed to help protect against fraud and misconduct, however there are a number of details that may be legitimately changed by us as mentioned above or your electronic service address that may be triggered upon lodgement of your SMSF’s tax return.

If you have any questions for our Superfund team, just give them a call on 07 5437 9900.
