ATO’s Crackdown on ABN Applications
The ATO have advised that they will be contacting directly the clients/individuals who have obtained an ABN recently to confirm steps (proof of evidence) that the individual has commenced their business.
The client will be provided 14 days to respond, or the ABR register will take steps to cancel the ABN.
Proof of evidence:
- Invoices with ABN
- Contracts in place
- Advertising
- Business Insurance
- Expenses occurred in setting up the business.
The purpose of this is to ensure that there is nobody on the ABR register, that is not entitled to an ABN.
